After a tense week spent staring at the weather forecast, Sunday dawned clear and bright for the 12th Junior Team Tournament hosted by Auckland Archery Club. Eight teams entered, ready to do battle on the Target and Field rounds, and to see how far they could get on the Zombie Run – the new field event invented for the day.
The archers ranged from experienced to novices, but all of them had a great time and enjoyed themselves, testing the limits of their bows and skills, as well as demolishing the zombies in the zombie run.
The Teams were made up of any four archers and contained a mix of the divisions (U14 Recurve, U14 Compound, U20 Recurve and U20 Compound). The scoring for the event is the highest scorer in the division gets 1000 points, with the next place-getter pro-rated from there. With the Zombie Run, archers were only allowed three arrows each, and had to shoot the zombie either in the head (for an instant kill) or in the body twice. A target with three misses meant they had to allow one of their team to “die”. The teams did their best to get to the end of the run with as many of the archers alive as possible.

Congratulations to the winners, and well done to all teams that came along on the day, had some fun, ate some BBQ sausages, shot some Zombies and generally braved the showers for a wonderful day.
